Hello! I am Genevieve Kenah and I am the new Marketing Intern at the Ronald McDonald House. I will be blogging every week and updating our social media accounts with all of the exciting things going on here at the House on a daily basis. I can’t wait to learn more about the wonderful ways the House impacts the lives of families whose children are being treated at Milwaukee-area hospitals.
I am a sophomore studying Marketing with a minor in Writing-Intensive English at Marquette University. In my free time, I serve as the Vice President of Public Relations for Marquette’s Panhellenic Association. I grew up volunteering with my family at local soup kitchens in the Chicagoland area and learned at a young age how important it is to help those in need. My passion for community service grew through high school and into college, where I volunteer as a big sister mentor through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee. I am excited to join the RMHC team and further expand my commitment to helping others.
I think that the Ronald McDonald House’s mission to “keep families close” is powerful. The House and its dedicated staff and volunteers fill a fundamental need many families have; to be close to their children while they are receiving treatment. During such a painful time, the House and its many amenities are there to lighten the stress parents may feel, allowing them to focus their time and energy on their child receiving treatment. My favorite room in the House is the “Magic Room,” where children get to pick any toy and book they want upon their arrival because it gives children a few moments of excitement during a stressful time. I also think that McNugget, the House Therapy Dog, is a great resource because he leaves the families with smiles on their faces after they get to see his tricks and play with him.
So now you know a little bit about me and why I admire Ronald McDonald House Charities. I look forward to learning more about the House and can’t wait to share all of the ways families are impacted every day and how we can help them.
