I recently had the opportunity to go through an accumulation of old House materials and was amazed by all of the memories and reflections that came flooding at me. I have been a staff member since 2000 so I have witnessed many changes and improvements to the House over the years – people have come and gone, events have come and gone, and families have come and gone, but this House just keeps wrapping its arms around all those families who need help at a very fragile time in their lives.
I remember when my desk overlooked the old driveway and a family from West Virginia was packing their car to leave. They pulled out and beeped their horn all the way down the drive. I remember being so moved by this powerful way to say “thank you.”
I found myself somewhat astounded as I reflected on all the changes that have been made not only physically to the House, but that have been made to provide more comfort and support in ways we would never have even thought about back in 2000.
Whether it’s the gala, a committee meeting, pet therapy or vegetables growing in the Secret Garden, such depth has made this beautiful place something that, whether you are a donor, volunteer or staff member, you should know your support has continually made this House a place that love built and continues to build in so many ways.
