Kids Kitchen

In my 5 ½ years working at the Ronald McDonald House, I have seen many things. I have seen thousands of families walk through our doors and stay with us – some for only a few nights, some for many months. Their days are long as hours are spent in the hospital, supporting their sick child, providing a hand to hold and arms to hug, and waiting for medical procedures or news from the medical team. So when these families return to the House after a long day, staff and volunteers at the House want to provide them the best experience we can, offering support in many ways. Enjoying a warm, home-cooked meal from one of our many family meal volunteer groups, participating in art or music therapy, enjoying a visit with McNugget, Walter, Betsy, or another one of our visiting therapy animals, helps to make our House feel like “home.” Last week we revealed a new fun spot in our House. Our third floor gathering space is now home to a child-sized kitchen and dining area. While moms, dads and other caregivers gather their Lunch-2-Go in the morning, children can enjoy cooking up some fun in the kitchen. Our long-time friends at Willis Towers Watson donated the funds to create this pint-sized play area. I appreciate everything these friends have done for us and the families we serve.
