Assisting in the Family Meal Program is a great way to help the families at RMHC by volunteering your time and talents. There are four options in which you can participate in, from Snacks from Scratch to Family Dinner! These programs ease the financial burden on our families and help them have more time to focus on their children. The goal of RMHC is to provide dinner for our families 6 days a week and brunch on Saturday and Sunday. Family Dinner is served 6:00-7:00 p.m. and Brunch is from 10:30-11:30, both are in the second-floor Family Meal kitchen. Volunteers are responsible for planning the menu, purchasing any ingredients, as well as preparing and serving the meal! This is a great way to interact with the RMHC families and have a hands on experience with them!
The Lunch-2-Go program provides brown bag “to-go” lunches for guests of the Ronald McDonald House. The goal of the program is to eliminate both the worry and the cost of a lunch for families residing in the House. Three times a week, Lunch-2-Go volunteers prepare items that families can pack into individualized brown bag lunches and take on their way to the hospital.
The Snacks from Scratch program provides homemade snacks for the families, again the volunteers plan the snack, purchase the ingredients and prepare the snack. Please understand that you will not be serving your snacks to families as you would with a meal, but simply providing snacks in individual bags for later use. It’s also a perfect opportunity for smaller groups or even individuals to come in and help our families.
