Having the opportunity to work at Ronald McDonald House Eastern Wisconsin over the last few months has been an eye-opening experience. Before starting my internship, I knew about some basic information about RMHC and their mission to keep families together. What I didn’t understand, but would come to learn over the next few months, is how a small dedicated staff and a group of committed volunteers can truly make a difference in the lives of others.
Every day I have spent at RMHC I have been continuously amazed at the impact the House has in the lives of families during such a difficult time. Because of the staff, who are incredibly hardworking and devoted to serving families, our guests are able to rest and recharge in a safe space. The numerous programs the House offers, from Lunch-2-Go to Pet Therapy, help our guest families focus on their children and eliminate some of the stress they are experiencing. The staff are constantly coming up with ways to improve and enhance all the House offers to keep families together.
In addition to the House’s staff, our 550 volunteers help keep the House running smoothly by preparing guest rooms for families, handling front office administrative tasks, and driving the van. These volunteers are big-hearted and generous with their time, and without them, the House would not be able to serve our families.
In my time at RMHC Eastern Wisconsin, I have seen first-hand how a group dedicated to one cause can truly impact the lives of others. While I will be sad to leave my internship at the House, I can’t wait to see how it continues to grow and evolve. It truly is the “The House that Love Built.”
