In 2019, we established a Teen Ambassador Program for our current RMHC® Eastern WI Teen Volunteers to take on leadership roles. In addition to their assigned tasks as Teen Volunteers, this program allows a group of our teens to further engage with and promote our mission in their schools and communities. Our Teen Ambassadors show their dedication and passion for the RMHC® mission each and every time they are here at our House. Whether it’s making fleece tie blankets, creating decorations to be hung on guest family doors or making fun snacks for families to enjoy, our Teen Ambassadors go the extra mile in ensuring our House truly feels like a home away from home for our families. While in their schools and communities, they are collecting pop tabs, holding wish list drives and sharing their volunteer experience with friends and family. The work they do within their own communities helps us move our mission forward.
To highlight what makes volunteering at RMHC Eastern WI so special to them, here are a few quotes from our Teen Ambassadors:
“My favorite part of volunteering is giving tours. I love meeting the families, getting to show them this beautiful House, and letting them know our whole team is always here for them.” – Anna L.
“My favorite part of the House is being able to brighten someone’s day with the special events we put together for our guests, especially during the holidays.” – Owen T.
“I love to collaborate, so the most valuable part of my experience volunteering for RMHC has been being able to make meaningful connections with other volunteers and families at the House!” – Annie B.
“I especially love interacting with parents and their adorable children when taking them to our Magic Room! Seeing the kids’ faces when the door opens to all these new toys makes my day every time I volunteer. I hope to find a RMHC in the city I end up in for college because I am not ready to lose the consistent smiling faces of the staff, awesome support system of my fellow House volunteers, and the inspirational strength I see in the families who come to stay with us.” – Caroline G.
“My favorite part as a RMHC volunteer is being able to interact with the guests by helping them in any way possible. I am thankful for all the House has given and taught me. It has not only made me a better person, but has shown me how working together is crucial to helping those in need.” – Sebastian K.
The connections our Teen Ambassadors make with one another and the way they form genuine friendships with those they work closely with is something to cherish. While it’s evident that we benefit immensely from the work that these teens do here and in their communities, it’s inspiring to see the ways in which volunteering at the House transforms their own worlds at the same time. While the past few years of our Teen Ambassador Program have been primarily virtual, our teens continue to bring their ideas and find ways to leave an impact here at RMHC through projects big and small.
We are grateful for their big hearts and helping hands. The compassionate care, positive energy and enthusiasm these teens bring to our House and families is special and never taken for granted. Thank you, RMHC Teen Ambassadors, for all that you do!
