Everybody has a favorite canned drink they enjoy from time to time. Do you know what we love just as much that you may not know about? The pop-tab!
Not only do you feel refreshed, you can feel accomplished after drinking a canned beverage too! The pop-tabs are an essential part of opening the drink, but they are also beneficial for the Ronald McDonald House®. Just like you might collect aluminum cans for money, we collect the pop-tabs. Though small, they are mighty! Due to their high concentration of aluminum, and thanks to our recycling partner, Complete Recycling Services, for raising the price of aluminum on Tab Toss Day, we have successfully raised over $375,000 in the past twenty years, and we don’t plan to stop anytime soon!
These tiny treasures are easy to collect and provide an opportunity for kids to learn more about our House. If you didn’t know, RMHC® Eastern WI provides a home away from home for families that have children receiving care at area hospitals. Everything that the House is able to provide is because of donations from people like you.
Our Tab Toss Day event is held annually to recognize the importance of collecting pop-tabs. Over the past few years, we have created a way to gather as a community to help spread awareness and to make memories too. There are activities of all kinds for everybody to be a part of, including games for the kids, fun raffles that help raise money, face painting, food and much more. It’s a great day for everyone to celebrate what RMHC Eastern WI does and how you can get and stay involved. Our staff and volunteers team up with Winter Services to host the event, and are joined by various Police and Fire Departments, Girl and Boy Scouts, and other businesses and organizations that love to get involved. It truly is a day of fun and philanthropy!
Despite this year’s unprecedented events, we are still looking forward to Tab Toss Day 2020. Although we won’t be able to share the activities we were planning, you can still drive through and drop off your pop tabs. With your help as a community, we are confident that we can have another successful year. Strength and influence is shown in numbers and when we all come together, we are capable of anything. Power is in the people and when we unite as one, the outcome is life changing.
Please join us this Saturday, May 16th, at Winter Services in West Allis from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. to drop off your pop-tabs. Our socially distanced staff can’t wait to see you!
